Debt Problems

I have a credit card in collection =(. If I pay off my debt, can I then use that same credit card?

My debt isn't too much, but I'm a [starving] student and its hard without any financial assistance from my family. Would I have to get a different credit card? Or can I use that same one once it's debt-free? Also, will my credit score be back in good shape? Thanks for the advice/help =)!!

  1. If your debt has been sold to a collection agency, that means the creditor has closed the original account.
  2. It depends on the card issuer, but generally, yes, they will let you use it again. I, unfortunately, speak from experience.
  3. This depends entirely on whether or not it is being dealt with by their internal collections department or if they have outsourced it to an external debt collection agency. If it has been outsourced, then you will not have the credit facility any longer, as they will have had to terminate the credit agreement in order to pass it on to be collected. If it is being dealt with internally, then your credit agreement is still active and they may allow you to carry on using the card. It is purely down to their discretion More than likely, if you had a high credit limit, this will be reduced drastically to a minimal amount.
  4. that means that it ha been closed and charged off from your credit card company it ha been sold to collection company and you have no access to the card now
  5. If it's with a collection agency that card is closed down and I doubt they will re-open. To save your credit score you need to negotiate a pay to delete agreement with the collection agency, otherwise the negative mark will still be there, the only change will be to show that it was paid.
  6. Why would you want to use the card again? It's worked so well for you in the past...
